Uterine fibroids

I have recently been diagnosed with a large sub mucosal fibroid in my uterus through a laparoscopy. My specialist referred me for an MRI scan which I am now having to wait 4 weeks to discuss whether or not they can remove it. The waiting is terrible and I want to know whether it is still possible to carry a child to full term with a fibroid? I am 36 years old and I really want to get pregnant. The waiting is the worst part especially when everyone around me is getting pregnant. I am trying to stay positive but sometimes it is really hard.

More people need to realise the pain and suffering infertility brings to couples. Thank you for making people aware.

    Dear Elmospike,
Many thanks for your email. I can totally understand how you feel.

On a brighter note, I’d like to share with you that there are many women who have fibroids and they still both get pregnant and are able to deliver a baby without any problem.
Of course, not all fibroids are the same. The problems a fibroid may cause are related to their size and location.

Regarding your query, your doctor probably prefers to wait and have more accurate information (size and location-wise) before advising you to either remove it or not. This is just because in some cases it is not worthy to get it removed.

I wish you all the best and hope to have encouraged you. Don’t lose faith!

    Best regards,

    Dr. Marta Colodrón
