My husband and i have been trying for 18 months. I have had blood tests - all fine, im ovulating, periods are regular, my overies have been checked all ok. My husband did a seman sample and he has a low sperm count so the doctor has suggested IUI. My husband has to do another seman sample this week to see if any of his sperms are good ones. My question is if there are (hopefully!) then what do they do with that sperm? Do they freeze them until im ready to ovulate? If its not succesful how many trys do you get? My huband is trying to loose weight, does this really make a difference to his sperm count or the quality?
Thank you very much for your questions.
After 18 months of trying to conceive naturally without success and all tests giving normal results, the first treatment we usually recommend is an intrauterine insemination.
In order to perform an IUI, we need good quality sperm and that’s probably the reason why they intend to re-test your partner’s sperm. Most guidelines recommend IUI if there are at least 3 million motile spermatozoids in the sample, otherwise the recommended treatment would be an IVF.
For an IUI we always recommend using a fresh sperm sample (although we usually also keep a frozen sample as a back-up in case there is a problem on the day of the insemination).
Of course, losing weight and maintaining a healthy lifestyle (no drinking or smoking) will always help increase sperm quality.
I hope I have answered your query. Please don't hesitate to ask any further questions you may have.
With best regards,
Dra. Clara Colomé

Dear mr.jhon,
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for placing your trust in us.
In some cases, when pregnancy has not been achieved, it is possible that progesterone may cause a delay in the arrival of your period.
As a rule, if it is confirmed that pregnancy has not occurred and this delay goes on beyond 7 or 10 days, we recommend going back to the gynaecologist to help you regulate your menstrual cycle again.
Our advice is to undergo a blood pregnancy test in order to confirm the result and most importantly, to contact our patient care team as they have all the details of your medical history and can provide you with all the necessary instructions at this time.
Best wishes from the eugin team
Dear Mr.jhon,
Thank you for contacting us again and we are very sorry to hear that you did not finally get pregnant.
The discomfort you describe may be due to the hormonal treatment itself that you have been following, although if it persists, or increases, we recommend that you contact our patient care team so that a doctor can appraise it in person or even contact your regular gynaecologist.
Meanwhile, we are at your disposal to clear up any other doubts you may have.
Warm regards from the eugin team
