My husband and i have been trying to get pregnant for 1 1/2 yrs now. I am definitely ovulating, and no history of disease. He has had a sperm count test done. The GP said all was results were fine, just to keep trying and have fun. Im not so sure...his results were:
MOTILE 53%, (progressive 13% non progressive 40%) NON MOTILE 47%. It looks to me that this is just over the odds.
What is normal sperm count and could this be a factor towards us not getting pregnant yet?
Good evening,
Many thanks for your message. Spermiogrammes are currently evaluated according to the criteria provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2010.
Those criteria state that a normal motility starts at 40%, taking into account both progressively and non-progressively motile sperm.
In your particular case, your total equals 53%, which means that it lies within the parameters of what it is considered to be normal.
The 2010 WHO reference values are as follows:
Semen Volume: ≥ 1.5ml
Sperm Concentration: ≥ 15,000/ml (or: ≥ 39 ml for the whole sample)
Mobility: A+B motility > 32% or A+B+C A≥40%
Morphology: normal forms: >4%
White cells: > 1,000 WBC/ml
PH: ≥7.2
However, since you have already unsuccessfully tried for a year and half to conceive, I would advise you to seek specialized medical attention from a fertility treatment expert so that your case can be studied thoroughly.
I hope to have been of assistance to you.
Kind regards,
Dr. Marta Trullenque
